I work with individuals to assess and understand their symptoms of depression. For example, many people are unaware that irritability, or a decrease in the ability to focus and concentrate can be signs of depression. We discuss some of the depressive thoughts, in particular ones with self-critical and self-attacking content. The first goal is for you to recognize the history of certain negative thoughts, often stemming from other events or people. The focus on the past is not to feel stuck but to empower you to address the thoughts mindfully, that is with acceptance and self-compassion and without reacting with further negative self-evaluations, emotions or behaviors.
